About The Pet Geek

Who we are?

The Pet Geek is run by a small team of pet parents based in the US, Canada, and Australia — the kind of people who’ve spent way too long comparing dog food ingredient lists at 11pm. We’re not veterinarians, and nothing on this site replaces professional veterinary advice — but we take the research seriously so you can make a more informed choice before you buy.

We Geek Out So Your Pet Wins

The Pet Geek started with a simple frustration: too many pet product recommendations online are recycled from the same five affiliate lists, with no real testing, no real research, and no real pets involved.

At The Pet Geek, we believe every pet deserves an owner who’s armed with the best information — not marketing fluff, not outdated advice, and definitely not guesswork.

Why We Started This

Like most pet owners, we’ve been overwhelmed by conflicting advice online.

One article says raw food is the best thing you can do for your dog. Another says it’s dangerous. One vet says supplements help with joint pain. Another says save your money.

We got tired of it.

So we built The Pet Geek — a place where every guide is researched thoroughly, every product recommendation is honest, and every piece of advice is grounded in what actually works for real pets and real owners.

What We Cover

We started with senior dogs — one of the most underserved areas in pet content. Millions of dog owners wake up one day and realize their best friend is getting older, and they have no idea what to do differently.

We’re here for that moment.

From there, we’ve expanded to cover:

  • Dog care — food, health, grooming, and gear across all life stages
  • Cat care — because cat owners deserve better advice too
  • Pet 101 — first-time owner guides, insurance, and the real cost of pet ownership

How We Work

We research before we recommend.

Every guide starts with reading the science, consulting vet-reviewed sources, and understanding what pet owners actually struggle with.

We only recommend what we’d use ourselves.

When we say something is the “best,” we mean it. We’d rather point you to nothing than point you to something mediocre.

We’re transparent about how we earn.

The Pet Geek is reader-supported. Some of our links are affiliate links — if you buy through them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we keep the lights on and the content free. You can read our full Affiliate Disclosure.

We update our content.

Pet nutrition research evolves. Products get discontinued. We revisit our guides regularly to make sure what you’re reading is still accurate.

Serving Pet Owners Across Three Countries

We write with pet owners in the United States, Canada, and Australia in mind. That means region-specific product recommendations, local program availability, and links that actually work where you live.

How We Make Money

Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them — at no extra cost to you. This never affects which products we recommend or how we rate them. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure for details.
